Two ambitious farmers once convinced David Ben Gurion to establish a farming community in a place where a hoe had never touched the ground, in the barren soil of the Arava. Sixty six years later, their son, who has worked the fields since age two and whose fingers are literally green from labor, runs a 700 dunam empire of peppers, tomatoes and vegetables that could feed the entire country.
In this new episode of Man/Land (Adam/Adama), Hedai Offaim and Shlomi Shaban make a pilgrimage to the holy ground of Israeli agriculture, Moshav Ein Yahav. They hear the true legend of how the farm began, cook smoky eggplant patties from the farm’s harvest, and fill the fields with music from the song “Derech HaKurkar,” which feels as if it were written for this story.
