The Scar of Disengagement

The Scar of Disengagement

2 Episodes

Twenty years after the Disengagement, Israel finds itself in a brutal war with Hamas.

Although the withdrawal from Gaza was carried out through a lawful and orderly government decision, it left behind a deep ideological, democratic, social, political, and national rupture in the consciousness of large parts of the public. The evacuation of 8,800 settlers from Gaza and northern Samaria was a highly controversial move whose consequences continue to shape Israeli reality to this day.

At the time, the specter of civil war loomed over Israel. Today, that shadow has returned against the backdrop of judicial reform, the October 7 attack, and the war that followed.

This documentary series tells a complex, painful, human, social, political, and national story, allowing viewers for the first time to confront the dilemmas that continue to tear Israel apart from within to this day. It returns to the roots of the decision, its execution, and the enduring fracture from then until now.

The scar still burns. For many Israelis, life was abruptly turned upside down. This is not only a story about withdrawal or evacuation, but the story of a divided people and of a nation struggling to rebuild itself while living with trauma.
