The Chaos Within
This autobiographical documentary follows Yannai, whose mother—Holocaust survivor Faiga Ashlag—believed he was destined to be the Messiah and spread the secrets of Kabbalah. Instead, at 14, he fled to the streets of Tel Aviv, descending into heroin addiction. Filmed over more than a decade, the story reveals Yannai’s struggle for what seemed least possible: a home. Woven through Kabbalah, heroin, dance, and redemption, the film also portrays Faiga’s extraordinary life—marrying Rabbi Ashlag at 45 when he was 85, learning his mystical teachings, and devoting herself to “saving the world” while battling her own darkness. At its core, the film is an exploration of chaos, faith, resilience, and the universal search for belonging.
