The Arab rebellion against the British and the Jewish settlement, which began in 1936 and was finally suppressed in 1939, intensified and underscored the deepening hostility between Palestine’s Arabs and Jews.
The most notable outcome of the rebellion was the Peel Commission, which, for the first time, proposed an idea that would become a UN resolution a decade later: dividing Palestine into two states—with all the challenges such a solution would entail.
