“We live on little money and a lot of romance,” says Israeli cowboy Tom Gilat, wearing the handcrafted hat made by his wife, Zohar. In the sweeping pastures of the Golan Heights, he rides with his friends in pursuit of the dream they fulfill every day: keeping the local cowboy culture alive despite harsh drought, war and the sense that they may be a disappearing breed.
In this episode, Shlomi Shaban and Hedai Offaim travel to the Naftali Mountains to sit by the fire and hear stories of friendship and loss from Israel’s cowboys. They cook a rich meal from the local herd and perform a special version of “He Was a Friend of Mine,” translated by Shlomi and inspired by Tom.
