This documentary film sheds light, for the first time, on the little-known Holocaust of the Jews of former Yugoslavia, where 85% of the Jewish community was exterminated despite having faced little discrimination before the war. Through the eyes of Stella, an Israeli born in Yugoslavia, the film retraces the extermination across the region, examining the roles of both the Germans and the various Yugoslav nationalities. Alongside this, Stella uncovers the story of her Muslim great-grandfather, honored as a Righteous Among the Nations for saving Jews during the Holocaust. Blending survivor testimonies, historian insights, and a journey across Yugoslavia’s provinces—mapped with animated routes—the film juxtaposes the country’s breathtaking landscapes with its darkest history, exposing the depth of tragedy still under-researched today.
