Flight 1812 - Rediscovering Mom

Flight 1812 - Rediscovering Mom

On October 4, 2001, a Siberian Airlines plane departing from Israel exploded over the Black Sea, killing all 78 people on board—51 of them Israeli citizens, many recent immigrants from the former Soviet Union. A Russian investigation concluded that a Ukrainian missile mistakenly struck the aircraft, a claim the Ukrainian government accepted, offering humanitarian aid to the victims’ families. Yet, the tragedy received minimal media coverage and faded from public discourse, leaving many unanswered questions. Among the victims was Oksana Zeltser, a 38-year-old single mother on her way to visit her own mother. Her 13-year-old son never got the chance to say goodbye. Years later, still haunted by the silence surrounding the incident, he embarks on a personal journey to uncover the truth about the crash, the systemic indifference that followed, and the mother he lost too soon. As memories resurface, so does the realization that in losing her, he had also lost a part of himself. This documentary captures that journey—an emotional, investigative quest to recover not only facts, but identity, memory, and justice.
