In this documentary film, director Iris Zaki takes her father on a journey across generations and continents to explore their shared Jewish–Arab heritage, following the extraordinary story of her grandmother, Souad Zaki. A celebrated Jewish Arabic singer in 1940s Egypt, Souad starred alongside Umm Kulthum and became famous throughout the Arab world. After marrying renowned Muslim musician Mohamed Elakkad, she was left to raise their child alone when he abandoned her. Fleeing to Israel, she lived a double life—cleaning by day, singing by night. Blending scripted period scenes, rare archival footage, and candid father–daughter conversations, the film unpacks a tempestuous family history while delving into Iris’s own complex identity.
