A Fish Tale

A Fish Tale

This documentary film follows Johnny, who believes in Africa’s future and dreams of returning from Israel to bring modern fish farming to his homeland. His wife, Thérèse, sees no future there and is focused on securing a better life for their children—even if it means staying in Israel at any cost. When their visas expire, their opposing visions lead to conflict. Emmanuelle Mayer’s directorial debut, filmed over ten years, is an intimate and moving portrait that contrasts male and female perspectives, exploring themes of migration, fate, and the chasm between Africa and the West.

Director: Emmanuelle Mayer
